Speacial News
Dear Church Family,
I have felt compelled for several weeks to reveal some feelings I have had concerning you. I have yet to do this because I did not know the appropriate time and place to share my heart with you. I think one way to do this is through the website so I am taking advantage of the opportunity.
First, I want to say that the Oak Grove First Baptist family is very special to me. I consider it a privilege to serve as your pastor. I have received a great deal of encouragement from you since I have been your pastor and for that I am grateful. Please allow me to share some things with you that have blessed me over the last few months.
First, I observed several weeks ago during our time of fellowship one member of our church walk from near the back of the church to the front to greet a guest in our services. I know this member did not know this person personally because I heard them introduce themselves and welcome them to our church. What a blessing. I have also had some of our guests testify to me how friendly Oak Grove First Baptist has been since they had been visiting. You will never know how much this blessed my heart. Thank you for being such a loving fellowship.
Second, I want to say that it is encouraging to hear of and see those who are involved in ministry. The WMU day group recently tore bed sheets into small strips, rolled the strips up, placed them in boxes and shipped them to South Africa to be used as bandages. That's ministry. Praise the Lord. Our WMU night group is also involved in ministry. Thanks be to God. I can't even begin to tell you how encouraging this to me. Some time ago the Southern Baptist Convention changed the name of WMU to WOM (Women on Mission). I think it would be appropriate for our WMU ladies to begin referring to themselves as WOM because they are certainly on mission for God.
Third, I heard that some of our senior ladies are getting together during the day to go and visit in the community. We also have several men and women showing up for visitation on Tuesday evenings. Wednesday Jackie and Crandy took the 1st-5th grade into the community to deliver baskets of goodies to people who are unchurched. It does my heart good to see a church try and reach its community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. And I thank God that someone cares for the lost.
Fourth, let me say what a blessing those have been who are involved in Upward basketball. Again, I have to say thanks to Todd Hicks for bringing us this great ministry. I am as excited about the future of Upward basketball as I am the present because I know it's only going to get better.
Finally, what can I say about the website. When David brought the possibility of a website to my attention my first reaction was negative. I did not mean to be negative, I just knew that it would be a lot of work to maintain the site. David agreed immediately to get the site off the ground and to maintian it throughout its existence and he has done a wonderful job.
In conclusion, I realize that many people are involved in ministry that I know nothing about. All of you are so encouraging to your pastor. It's refreshing to see people doing ministry as opposed to just talking about doing ministry. I want to encourage you to continue serving the Lord Jesus Christ, because Paul said in 1 Cor. 15:58 "my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord." God will reward you for your labor. To Him be the glory. I want to say thank you Oak Grove First Baptist for being such a special group of people. Thank you for allowing me to share my feelings with you. May God's hand remain on you and may His blessings be yours in abundance.
